NO DIRECTION

Before shooting, Cassandra and I agreed that the space belonged to Lillian and the scene would not be directed. We didn’t have a shooting plan, just pronounced roles. I shot high-speed at 60fps for slow-motion footage. She shot 24fps for regular speed. I followed my body. She followed hers. We watched each other to avoid the getting the other in the shot unless we knew the image would be powerful. I felt drawn to capture Lillian’s facial expressions. Cassandra captured the grandeur of Lillian’s full body. The end result is a gorgeous weaving of both masculine and feminine perspectives. It was a marvelous balance that helped Lillian feel safe.
